As a part of the REIL-Biology project, we conducted a national survey of faculty who teach introductory biology laboratory courses to determine:
- The essential components of an authentic research experience in introductory biology laboratory courses
- The demographics of introductory biology laboratory courses at their institution and the degree to which they incorporate authentic research experiences
- Perceptions of barriers to the implementation of authentic research experiences in introductory biology laboratory courses.
The survey was developed by the steering committee of the REIL-Biology project and disseminated through the email listservs of national organizations.
